CAIRO - 19 August 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has appointed Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim as chairperson of the General Authority for the Golden Triangle Economic Zone for a one-year term beginning August 14, 2026.

Ibrahim has served as the authority’s deputy chairperson since April 2026, contributing to its development and investment agenda, overseeing industrial growth initiatives and strengthening engagement with the business community and local and international institutions.

He brings more than two decades of experience in economic diplomacy, trade, investment and public administration. His career includes several diplomatic and senior leadership roles at the Egyptian Commercial Service and the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Ibrahim began his professional career at Egypt’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, where he represented the country in World Trade Organization negotiations. He later worked at the economic and commercial office of the Egyptian Embassy in London before taking on senior roles at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, including director of the minister’s office.

From 2021 to 2025, he headed the commercial office at the Egyptian Embassy in Tokyo, leading efforts to attract Japanese investment into strategic sectors and deepen economic and trade relations between the two countries.

He became director of the technical office at the Egyptian Commercial Service in June 2025, overseeing trade, investment and international economic relations initiatives, before joining the Golden Triangle authority as deputy chairperson.

Ibrahim holds a master’s degree in International Business Economics from City University London, an MBA from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and a bachelor’s degree in International Foreign Trade from Helwan University.

The appointment comes as Egypt works to unlock the Golden Triangle’s economic potential, accelerate infrastructure development and attract high-value domestic and foreign investment.

The authority’s priorities include developing local value chains for mineral resources, reducing reliance on raw-material exports, establishing integrated industrial zones and strengthening links with Red Sea ports. It also aims to attract export-oriented manufacturing and investments in renewable energy and logistics.

With its strategic Red Sea location and proximity to natural resources, transport corridors and ports, the Golden Triangle is positioned to become a major industrial and investment hub, supporting exports, job creation and economic development across Upper Egypt.
