CAIRO - 19 August 2026: Egypt and Qatar are set to begin the first round of negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in October 2026, according to a government statement issued on Wednesday.

The announcement followed a preparatory meeting between Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, Ambassador Ehab Fahmy, and Sheikh Nayef bin Jassim Al Thani, Director of the Arab Affairs Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was held ahead of the seventh session of the Egyptian-Qatari Joint Higher Committee, scheduled for Thursday in New Alamein City.

Officials reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation and discussed several agreements expected to be signed during the committee session, which will be co-chaired by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Both countries highlighted the growing momentum in trade, investment and economic cooperation, particularly following the launch of the first phase of the Alam Al-Roum project.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination on regional and international issues and to joint efforts aimed at easing tensions and promoting stability across the region.
