Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced it will host an international meeting to discuss a Kingdom-led initiative establishing a multinational maritime defense coalition aimed at securing navigation in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the remarks during talks with Yemeni Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsin Zindani in Cairo, as they chaired the ninth round of the two countries’ strategic dialogue on Sunday.
Egypt supports all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis.
The ratification came two days after Saudi Arabia’s warnings against the Iranian-backed group of Houthis in Yemen, which represents a threat against the international maritime trade navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
“We are in an urgent need to reinforce our troops to face the challenges and risks that surround us,” Saudi Foreign Minister said.
The fleet is mainly composed of naval forces from the Northern Theater Command of the Chinese navy, including a destroyer, a frigate and a supply ship.
