The military announced it had fully entered the Umm Dam Haj Ahmed locality, while operations continue to secure the area and reclaim sites previously held by the paramilitary group.
Fighting between the army and rebels in the Kordofan and Blue Nile regions broke out in 2011, when South Sudan declared independence.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry said it respects the Sudanese sovereignty in a statement issued Tuesday.
