CAIRO – 27 January 2026: General Abdel-Meguid Saqr, Egypt’s Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, met on Tuesday with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and his accompanying delegation at the Ministry of Defense headquarters.
The high-level talks focused on a range of regional and international issues of mutual concern, specifically addressing their impact on the security and stability of the Middle East.
During the meeting, General Saqr emphasized the "profound strategic partnership" between Cairo and Washington. He lauded the expanding horizons of bilateral cooperation, particularly in military and training sectors, which continue to serve the shared interests of both nations.
For his part, Deputy Secretary Landau praised Egypt’s influential and proactive role on both the regional and international stages. He specifically highlighted Cairo’s consistent efforts to bolster security and peace across the Middle East and the African continent.
The discussions were attended by Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, senior military officials from the Egyptian Armed Forces, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
