El-Sisi affirms support for Jordanian leadership's measures after Iran attacks

CAIRO – 29 July 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's categorical rejection and condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and several other sisterly countries during a phone call with Jordan's King Abdullah II on Wednesday.

El-Sisi underscored Cairo's full support for all measures taken by the Jordanian leadership to safeguard the Kingdom's security, sovereignty, and people’s resources, the Presidency said in a statement.

The president emphasized that Jordan's security is an integral part of Egypt's national security.

Early on Wednesday, Jordan's armed forces said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed five missiles launched from Iran.

The military's announcement came after the US military said it had thwarted an Iranian ballistic missile barrage targeting American forces in the Middle East.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said they launched ballistic missiles at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base and the headquarters of the U.S. Central Command in Jordan, according to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.

Solidarity with Jordan

During the call, El-Sisi underscored the historic ties between Egypt and Jordan and reaffirmed Egypt's solidarity with the Kingdom in confronting all forms of terrorism and extremism, the Presidency said.

The president also underscored the need for intensified regional and international efforts to reach political solutions to the ongoing crises in the region. He said such efforts would help de-escalate tensions, restore security and stability, and avert the serious consequences of continued unrest.

For his part, King Abdullah II expressed appreciation for Egypt's steadfast support and El-Sisi's continued backing of Jordan in the face of challenges.

He highlighted the longstanding relations between the two countries and their peoples and praised El-Sisi’s vision based on upholding international law and good neighborliness, and pursuing a comprehensive peaceful settlement to the current tensions.

Palestinian Cause, Extremist Practices

The two leaders also discussed the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause, reaffirming the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution.

Meanwhile, they renewed their firm rejection of Israel's dangerous escalation in the West Bank, warning against the actions of extremist right-wing elements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

El-Sisi further reiterated Egypt's unwavering support for the historic Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The president also highlighted Egypt's ongoing institutional coordination with Jordan, affirming keenness to further strengthen it to address shared challenges.
