Netanyahu rejects Trump-backed 15-point plan for Gaza

CAIRO – 9 August 2026: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected US President Donald Trump-backed 15-point Gaza plan, saying Israel will not withdraw its forces until Hamas is “genuinely” disarmed.

Netanyahu told a cabinet meeting Sunday that Israel’s military will continue operations to prevent threats against its forces and citizens until Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza surrender their weapons.

"Israel rejects the 15-point document," Netanyahu said.

Hamas last month agreed to a roadmap posted by the Board of Peace, established under Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, including the “decommissioning of armed militias” in the enclave.

However, Israel said it will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed.

The rejection poses another setback to Trump’s Gaza peace initiative, which calls for Hamas’ disarmament, an Israeli military withdrawal and the reconstruction of Gaza under the oversight of the Board of Peace.
