CAIRO - 23 August 2026: The United States and Egypt highlighted opportunities to deepen cooperation in maritime infrastructure, artificial intelligence, logistics and digital technologies during the U.S.–Egypt Ports Infrastructure and Maritime Innovation Forum held in New Cairo on Sunday.
U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Mark Mitchell opened the forum, which brought together Egyptian officials and leading US companies to explore opportunities for investment and technology partnerships.
Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir also delivered opening remarks at the event, which showcased American technologies that can support Egypt’s port infrastructure and artificial intelligence sectors.
“The United States supports Egypt's pursuit of building a world-class maritime infrastructure,” Silverman said, adding that American companies are well positioned to compete for new projects and deepen commercial cooperation between the two countries.
Mitchell described Egypt as being at a “globally important trade and technology crossroads,” stressing the role of bilateral cooperation in strengthening security and strategic resilience across the country’s infrastructure.
“Our collaboration builds security and strategic resilience into Egypt’s infrastructure – from modernizing maritime transport and expanding the Suez Canal corridor to deploying secure, world-class American AI tech stack and data infrastructure,” Mitchell said.
He added that partnerships with leading US innovators could position Egypt at the forefront of regional supply chain resilience and digital transformation.
The forum brought together Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Moustafa Shaikhon, Governor of North Sinai Major General Khaled Mogawer and Deputy Minister of Maritime Transport Major General Nehad Shahin, alongside representatives of U.S. companies.
The discussions focused on connecting American companies with opportunities in Egypt’s data, cloud, maritime and logistics sectors, with an emphasis on private-sector investment and technical partnerships.
According to the U.S. Embassy, the initiative aims to strengthen bilateral trade and support Egypt’s economic growth by providing access to U.S. innovation and expertise.
The forum forms part of a broader U.S. commercial mission focused on expanding cooperation with Egypt in strategic infrastructure and maritime transport.
Following the Cairo forum, participating U.S. companies are set to hold consultations with SCZONE officials and the Governor of North Sinai before visiting Safaga Port to explore cooperation in maritime logistics, terminal management and port expansion.
