CAIRO – 20 August 2026: Minister of Labor Hassan Radad announced that Thursday, August 27, 2026, will be an official paid holiday for employees in the private sector who are subject to the provisions of Labor Law No. 14 of 2025, on the occasion of the Prophet’s Birthday (Mawlid al-Nabawi), instead of Tuesday, August 25.
The decision comes in line with the government’s efforts to unify the dates of official holidays across various sectors whenever possible.
The Minister said the decision is based on Article 129 of Labor Law No. 14 of 2025, which grants workers paid leave on official holidays, festivals, and occasions determined by a decision of the competent minister.
Mawlid al-Nabawi is a beloved occasion in Egypt and is celebrated by prayers, songs praising the Prophet, shows and podcasts on his life, as well as nutty sweets available almost exclusively during the occasion.
